Type 1 Diabetes Awareness
Welcome to our Type 1 Diabetes Awareness page.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition in which the body’s own immune system attacks the cells in the pancreas which produce insulin. We do not know what causes type 1 diabetes although it is not linked to lifestyle factors. There is currently no cure and it cannot be prevented. There are currently around 400,000 people living with type 1 diabetes in the UK and approximately 29,000 of them are children.
On this page you’ll find useful resources to share within your community to help raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of type 1 diabetes. This will help earlier diagnosis and prevent the onset of life-threatening Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
Together we really can save lives.
If you, a family member or a friend have been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, please head over to our sister site youngType2 for resources and support.
