Staying Safe in the Heat

Hi all

We all know that the next few days are going to be extremely hot as this heatwave continues.  Hot weather can really affect blood glucose levels and the heat can mean that insulin will be absorbed more quickly.

Please be careful in the heat and remember to:

  • Check blood glucose levels regularly.
  • Keep your meters, pumps and test strips out of the sun.
  • Keep your insulin cool.
  • Drink lots of water to stay hydrated.

If you’re out and about in the sun remember to wear loose fitting clothing, a hat, sunglasses, and apply sunscreen before going out.

Take good care, and if you have any concerns, contact your local diabetes team who will be happy to help.

Many thanks from all at Team DB
